I am a proud first-generation college graduate and 3L at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. I have been the sole provider of my education since starting undergraduate school, and law school has been no different. Law school has been particularly difficult because it comes with its own set of challenges and lack of representation. With Latinas making up less than 2% of the legal community, I feel an added pressure to not only succeed but to give back in the process. As a result of this scholarship, I have been able to work less hours to provide for my legal education and have been able engage more with my community at Loyola. This academic year, I have opted to join a journal and am Loyola’s Student Bar Association’s Vice President. Two endeavors I am not sure I would have been able to commit to without the assistance of this scholarship.
Being a scholarship recipient with DSF Chicago has also been affirming. It has shown me that the sacrifices I have made in order to pursue my passions are being recognized. It affirms the fact that I am on the path that I am meant to be on, doing the things I am meant to do. I am honored to have been chosen for this scholarship.
